A Few Words About Us |

DSA Royal International Taekwon-do
has been teaching the art of taekwon-do in the lower mainland since 2007. The school started on a backyard in Surrey, and developed into a full-fledged school in Burnaby, fully certified by the International Taekwon-do Federation.

Our Story So Far...
1990 |
DSA founded the St. Michael Taekwon-do Club in the Philippines. |
2000 |
DSA family moved to Vancouver, BC, Canada |
2003 |
DSA started teaching taekwondo at The Cage Martial Arts Centre in Surrey, BC. |
2007 |
DSA began teaching his kids, first on their backyard porch, then started renting gyms through the Surrey School Board. Their friends and classmates started joining and thus was born the DSA Royal International Taekwon-do. DSA contacted the ITF of BC and was taken under the wing of Master Hal Lipscombe. |
2008 |
DSA relocated to Vancouver, BC and the dojang was moved to Collingwood Neighborhood House. In November of that year, 2 students joined their first Coloured belt competitions and received 2 first place wins for patterns and a first and second place wins for sparring. |
2009 |
The club participated in its first Friendship Tournament. 8 delegates received a total of 15 medals, with 5 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze. |
2010 |
DSA attended the 52nd International Instructors Course in Denver, Colorado. In May, DSARITC attended its first provincial tournament in Vernon, BC. 7 delegates received 13 medals, with 7 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze. DSA receives his Class B umpire certification. In November, DSARITC participated at the National Championships in Richmond, BC. 18 Delegates received a total of 31 medals, 19 gold, 7 silver and 5 Bronze. In December, the club promoted its first 2 Blackbelts, Dana and Manuel. |
2011 |
The club moved its dojang to an MMA gym at Kingsway. DSARITC participated at the Provincials in Kamloops. 14 delegates garnered 24 medals, 13 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze. In November, the club drove to Calgary, Alberta to participate at the 2011 Nationals. 10 delegates came back with 28 medals, 7 gold, 7 silver, and 4 bronze. DSA became webmaster for the ITF of BC. |
2012 |
DSA receives his instructor's plaque from the CTFI. DSA is elected Board Director for the ITF of BC and chairman of the Communications Committee. |
2013 |
DSA received his 4th degree and International Instructor credentials while attending the IIC in Jamaica. Later that year, Mr. Manuel Darson Andaya was selected as a member of Team Canada and became its only delegate for Individual Junior Powerbreaking at the XVIII Senior and XII Junior ITF Taekwon-Do, World Championship in Benidorm, Spain October 23-2, 2015. He finished in 5th place out of 23 delegates. |
2014 |
DSA's children Dana and Manuel won at the Nationals and were selected as a member of Team Canada competing at the at the XIX Senior and XIII Junior ITF Taekwon-Do, World Championship in Jesolo, Italy. May 27-31, 2015. |
2015 |
DSATKD opens its full time school at 4600 Imperial St. Burnaby, BC. Little Dragons Class was started in November of the same year. |
2016 |
DSA received his Umpire Class A certification and ITF Kids Course Certification. |
2016 |
In May, DSA Celebrated his birthday with the first DSA Championships. A competition to showcase what the students have learned so far. |
2017 |
In July, DSA received his 5th degree blackbelt. In September, DSA hosted the Provincials at the Olympic Oval. Ms. Jenna Wong and Mr. Kento Vince is selected for Team Canada for 2017 World Championships in Ireland. |

Our Instructors |
Mr. Darius Andaya, V degree, is the founder and chief instructor of DSA Royal International Taekwondo Club. He started his Taekwon-Do career in 1983 at the age of 12 with the Philippine International Taekwondo Jido Kwan Association under the late Master Johnny Morris Arsol. He had to travel 1.5 hours each way to train in the art that has since become his passion.

Mr. Manuel Darson Andaya, III degree, started Taekwon-do at age 10 and has since represented Canada at two World Championships In 2013 at Benidorm, Spain then at Jesolo, Italy, in 2015.
